AECL National Research Universal (NRU) Reactor Restart
May 16, 2013—Nordion is pleased to report our primary supplier, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), has concluded its National Research Universal (NRU) reactor 30-day planned maintenance shutdown. According to AECL, the reactor was returned to operation, as planned, from its extended outage late during the evening of May 15.
Mo-99 regular order quantities will resume on Saturday, May 18, 2013 and Nordion expects to resume full production of Mo-99 during the week of May 19, 2013. The full production of Xe-133 will resume mid-week of May 19, 2013 and Xe-133 customers will receive regular order quantities on Friday, May 24, 2013.
For customers of I-131, an alternate supply agreement with a secondary supplier was secured to supplement Nordion Iodine-131 stocks during the extended NRU shutdown. Full production of I-131 from NRU will resume during the week of May 27, 2013.
