Best Employer for New CanadiansAwarded by Mediacorp Canada Inc., editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers, the Best Employer for New Canadians designation recognizes the nation's best employers for recent immigrants. Nordion has been recognized as a recipient of the Best Employer for New Canadians designation for promoting the issue of immigrant employment in Canada to other employers, advising internationally-trained jobseekers in person at networking events, and working with community organizations to help internationally-trained professionals find employment. Nordion is an inaugural member of Hire Immigrants Ottawa's Employer Council of Champions, a team of employers dedicated to promoting the idea of hiring immigrants within their firms. Hire Immigrants Ottawa is a community-based campaign made up of employers, immigrant settlement, and employment agencies and other groups who aim to create more employment opportunities for immigrant jobseekers. |

Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation (CIPEC) Leadership AwardThis designation is awarded by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to a select group of Canadian companies that have made a significant and innovative contribution to energy efficiency. Nordion is a CIPEC Award recipient. By changing light ballasts and modifying lighting schedules, Nordion achieved an 18 per cent decrease in hydro consumption. The annual savings for this project totaled 3,277,654 kilowatt hours, generating enough energy to provide hydro to 327 homes per year. By insulating buildings, operating with fewer heating, ventilation and air conditioning units on high efficiency, and determining lower steam requirements for a back-up boiler, Nordion achieved a 15 per cent reduction in natural gas consumption. As a result, 250,000 m3 of natural gas is being saved on an annual basis, enough gas for 83 homes annually. |

The award recognizes the exceptional work Nordion takes in promoting energy efficiency and reducing the day-to-day use of electricity. ENERGY STAR award is part of a family of ecoENERGY Efficiency Awards supported by Canada's Government to celebrate best practices in innovation in energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy. |

Return on Environment Partnership AwardThe Return on Environment® (ROE) Partnership Award is presented worldwide to a select group of industrial, commercial, and institutional establishments whose strong working relationship with GE Infrastructure Water & Process Technologies results in significant environmental, health, and safety benefits, while at the same time reducing operating costs. Nordion is the recipient of an ROE Partnership Award for an initiative which involved removing 25,000 gallons of water containing a corrosion inhibitor from a chilled water system at their corporate headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. |
