On May 9, Nordion customers and staff celebrated the launch of Nordion's Gamma Centre of Excellence (GCE), a world-class facility for the advancement of gamma sterilization science.
 Located in Laval, Quebec, near Montreal, and formerly known as the Canadian Irradiation Centre, the GCE focuses on applied research and development, training and specialty gamma processing for industrial and academic customers from across Canada and around the world. The GCE provides:
- World-class applied research, specialty contract irradiation services and training to Nordion’s customers and partners;
- Development of gamma irradiation processes for new or challenging products and materials;
- Access to Nordion as the partner of choice for gamma processing, application development and training.
Dr. Peter Covitz, Nordion’s Senior Vice President of Innovation, gave a presentation on Nordion’s vision for the GCE, before introducing a new video on the centre and cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Martell Winters, Senior Scientist for Nelson Laboratories, a Utah-based provider of microbiology testing services to medical device manufacturers, offered the customer’s perspective on the importance of a resource like the GCE, a true “one-stop-shop” for gamma.

BD Opens New CE Mark-Certified Irradiator Facility in Ireland
On January 24, in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, the Nordion sterilization team participated in BD’s opening ceremony for its new irradiator facility.

STERIS Isomedix Services
On April 19, Nordion attended the Chester, New York opening of a new gamma irradiator at STERIS Isomedix Services. Nordion designed, built, and installed the irradiator mechanism and presented STERIS with a plaque to commemorate the occasion.
