BD Opens New CE Mark-Certified Irradiator Facility in Ireland

On January 24, 2012, in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, the Nordion sterilization team participated in BD’s opening ceremony for its new irradiator facility. BD is a leading global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. Founded in 1897 and headquartered in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, BD employs approximately 29,000 associates in more than 50 countries throughout the world.
BD’s Dun Laoghaire facility manufactures insulin injection systems for the treatment of diabetes. According to Lisa N. Macdonald, BD’s Senior Global Director, Sterilization Services Corporate, Nordion solutions and expertise have helped the BD team expand its capacity to meet customer demand.
“Thanks to work by Nordion’s engineering team, we have brought online two new JS-10000 irradiators that meet all of the requirements for CE mark certification. We rely on Nordion solutions to help us satisfy our customers’ growing requirements and drive our business forward. As a result, we have made gamma sterilization a core competency within BD,” said Macdonald.
Nordion’s sterilization technologies team presented plaques to the BD sterilization team in recognition of the two companies' long-standing working relationship.
